How does the Residency Program at DCN work?
- Education and Curriculum
- After a week of general and nursing orientation, online specialty courses from professional organizations may be utilized as part of your department orientation. Courses such as AACN Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO), AORN PeriOp 101, and ENA Emergency Nurse Orientation are developed by premier nursing specialty organizations. The content is evidence-based and reflects the current standards of practice.
- DCN provides online access to Elsevier Clinical Skills and ClinicalKey for Nursing which make skills and research galore available at the fingertips of nursing staff. Staff may request remote access to examine aspects of Elsevier’s comprehensive library to promote ongoing professional learning.
- Clinical Experience with Preceptor
- Residents complete clinical shifts with preceptors. Preceptorship time varies by specialty.
- As part of your training, you may spend time in other areas to observe the workflow. This assists with your understanding of the patient's continuum of care as you build relationships with staff members in other departments.
- Support from your Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Department
- Your NPD team will schedule routine meetings to evaluate your progress. These meetings will identify strengths and areas of opportunity to help you grow and develop as a registered professional nurse.
- All data is regularly reviewed by DCN leadership to continually improve the program
