Desert Care Network Hospitals to Host Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive from June 9 –13

Palm Springs, CA – Desert Care Network hospitals are leading a community effort to provide local children and their families struggling with a healthy breakfast during the summer months through the Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive -- benefiting FIND Food Bank and The Way Station in Joshua Tree. The drive kicks off Monday, June 9 and runs through Friday, June 13.
“At Desert Care Network, we recognize and understand how hunger and poor nutrition can impact children’s health,” said Linda Evans, Chief Strategy Officer for Community Advocacy for Desert Care Network. “We know how vital a healthy breakfast is to start the day right, and through this initiative, we aim to support those in our community facing food insecurity. Join us in helping kids stay healthy over hungry this summer — and thank you for your kindness, generosity, and continued support."
Summer can be especially challenging in the desert region, where more than 84% of public-school students qualify for free or reduced-price meals — a key national indicator of food insecurity.
“We’re grateful that all three Desert Care Network hospitals are hosting the Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive and deeply value the long-standing partnership between Desert Care Network and FIND Food Bank in building a healthier community,” said Debbie Espinosa, President & CEO of FIND Food Bank. “Their support helps us distribute food to nearly 100 local non-profit community organizations as well as 30 free Community Mobile Markets, which operate throughout Eastern Riverside and Southern San Bernardino counties. Thanks to Desert Care Network and the cereal drive, many families in our service area will have access to a nutritious, whole-grain breakfast, and monetary donations from the campaign will support our Kids Summer Feeding program.”
