Linda’s Story

Linda Waldren had worked for health care facilities for most of her adult life, first as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and then behind the scenes in the billing department. She had enjoyed the work and looked forward to finishing her career in the medical industry—until her health became an issue.

Linda decided to move to Joshua Tree to live with her daughter and her four children, but eventually decided to find a place of her own.

“But then I got ill,” Linda recalls. That illness brought her to the emergency room (ER) at Hi-Desert Medical Center.

Sharing space

During her short stay in the ER, Linda met with Prem Solhotra, M.D., who had worked with Linda and was immediately able to offer her a diagnosis. Thankfully, it was a manageable condition. As she prepared to leave the ER, Linda explained her living situation to her care team and asked for a recommendation for a long-term care facility. Their response was unanimous: Hi-Desert Continuing Care Center would be a good fit for her.

A new home

The transition to long-term care was easier than Linda expected. “It took me a little time to adjust, but everyone was caring and wanted me to meet people.” Linda was pleasantly surprised how welcoming and comfortable the new environment was. “It’s one of the best facilities I have ever been in. The food is excellent, and that makes a big difference in the day-to-day.”

Linda noticed early on that the quality of care always matched or exceeded her expectations. “Everyone is very nice and very helpful.” She’s been so impressed by the care and the facility that whenever there’s a tour, she makes a point of recommending Hi-Desert to the guests.

In September, Linda will have lived at Hi-Desert Continuing Care Center for seven years. “I wouldn’t go anyplace else,” she states with the certainty of someone who has finally found lasting rest and comfort.
