Why Are Mammograms Important?
One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime—and it’s not just older women. Those in their forties account for 1 in 6 breast cancer diagnoses. Early detection of breast cancer is key! Catching it earlier means you could have more treatment options, less extensive treatment, and greater likelihood of survival. If the cancer is caught early enough, breast cancer patients now have a 99% survival rate.*
When Should I Start Getting an Annual Mammogram?
You should begin annual breast screenings at the age of 40 according to the American College of Radiology. If you have a family history of breast cancer, you should start at the age of 30—because those with a family history are 1.5 to 4 times more likely to develop breast cancer.
Why is it Important to Get a Mammogram Every Year?
Once cancer develops, it grows over time. The longer that cancer goes undetected, the more it can grow—becoming more severe and potentially spreading to other areas of the body. By taking a few moments every year to check for breast cancer, you can help ensure that if cancer is detected—it is smaller, less severe, and less likely to lead to more cancer complications.
