When Handshakes Hurt Treatment Options for Arthritis of the Hand and Wrist Join Dr. Pooyan for this Helpful Lecture on January 13

Jan 9, 2017

Do you cringe when someone wants to shake hands because they might shake your hand too firmly? Arthritis of the hand and wrist can be painful and even debilitating. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis (OA), a progressive and degenerative joint disease. Up to 27 million Americans suffer from osteoarthritis of the hand or weight-bearing joints.

pooyanDr. Ramin Pooyan, a hand and upper extremity specialist with the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences at Desert Regional, will give a talk on options for treatment of the hand and wrist.

More than half of the people who come to see Dr. Pooyan at his practice have arthritis. The most common procedure he performs is arthroplasty of the basal or thumb joint.

“Hand surgery is more delicate and fine tuned compared to the bigger joints,” said Dr. Pooyan. “I became a hand surgeon because I was fascinated by the anatomy and the intricacy of the hands – how all the tendons, bones, nerves and muscles work together. If one thing is off, it affects the entire function.”

In addition to arthritis, Dr. Pooyan will discuss other common hand and wrist conditions at the lecture, including carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, Dupuytren’s contracture and mallet finger. To attend this seminar, click here to register or call (800) 491-4990.
