You CAN do something today to start improving your heart health: RSVP to the 17th Annual Affair of the Heart! This free half-day health fair by Desert Care Network takes place on Thursday, February 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Bring a friend or loved one to enjoy a light breakfast, health screenings, health booths, live cooking demonstrations, food tastings, prizes, physician talks, Q&A with doctors, and more. Affair of the Heart will have more interactive ways to enjoy learning about heart health than ever before!
For foodies, the event will feature two live cooking demonstrations. One demonstration will showcase a healthy brunch entrée and the other will show off tasty and nutritious lunch options. Attendees will be able to watch how the dishes are prepared, sample the items, and even receive a recipe card to take home. Registered dietitians will be on hand at several booths to answer questions about heart-healthy nutrition and even offer tips for how to make healthy choices when dining out.
Special presentations will take place in the main tent – including talks by doctors on topics including women’s heart health, blood clots, and an open Q&A with a cardiologist. Other event highlights include a game show with prizes at 11 a.m. to test your knowledge of heart facts.
To keep things active, our “Fit After Fifty” instructor will lead a mid-morning stretching session halfway through the program. Stretching is always a good idea before engaging in exercise and regular exercise is an important factor in reducing your risk of heart disease.
Attendees will be able to visit more than a dozen health fair booths to gain valuable information, get a screening or ask questions. Booth topics include:

- Pacemakers and Friends, a booth covering heart devices
- Nutrition, with food samples and staffed by registered dietitians
- Hands-Only CPR with the American Heart Association

- Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Animal Samaritans Pet Therapy Booth with dog petting
- Hospital History – featuring a nostalgic display of old photos including icons of the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s who were involved in the hospital’s early years
- Ask a Doctor – staffed by University of California, Riverside resident physicians and FCPP doctors
