Polish Off Your Knee Pain New Options for Knee Replacement Join Dr. Louis Stabile for an Informative Seminar

Jan 9, 2017

The knee is the largest joint in the body. Even as central as it is to daily activity, you may not give your knees much thought until they hurt. If a painful knee is interfering with your favorite sport or daily activities, here’s an opportunity to learn more about new treatments for knee pain. Join Dr. Louis Stabile, an orthopedic surgeon with the Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences at Desert Regional Medical Center, for an in-depth discussion about the latest options for knee replacement on Tuesday, January 17 at Sun City Palm Desert.

louis-stabileIn the last few years, joint replacement surgery has seen the introduction of new minimally-invasive procedures and technologies, like robotic-arm assisted tools—which are available at Desert Regional Medical Center. The robotic technology is designed to help doctors perform effective hip and knee replacements, relieving pain and improving mobility. For each patient, a unique pre-surgical plan is created. The physician can then use the robot’s 3D imaging to visualize the joint and prepare the patient for surgery. The tool allows the surgeon to make adjustments as needed during the surgery. When the implant is being placed, the robotic arm will help guide the physician to the pre-defined area and prevent the surgery from moving outside the boundaries. As a result, physicians can ensure they preserve as much healthy bone and tissue as possible—getting patients back on their feet quickly.

Desert Regional Medical Center surgeons also perform minimally-invasive total knee replacement. Total knee replacement is one of the most common health care procedures performed in America with more than 600,000 people undergoing this procedure each year. What once required a several-night stay in the hospital is now frequently performed on a minimally-invasive basis and typically only involves a one-night hospital stay.

Realistic physical activities following knee replacement include walking, swimming, golfing, driving, light hiking, biking and dancing as well as other low-impact sports.
