Neurosurgery Residency
A Physician residency in neurosurgery is among Desert Care Network’s expanded graduate medical education programs. The residency complements Desert Care Network’s advanced programs in stroke treatment and trauma and will help advance the hospital’s high level of care to these patients. It also helps address a shortage of neurosurgeons in the U.S.
The American Osteopathic Association has accredited the new residency.

The Department of Neurosurgery participates exclusively with the American Osteopathic Association National Matching Service and can be found on the Electronic Residency Application Service. You
may apply through the dean’s office at your medical school, or through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
Information for International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
- Passing scores on the first attempt of COMLEX steps 1 and 2 are required.
- A minimum of two months of U.S. clinical experience is preferred but not required. Observer ships are not considered clinical experience.
- Applicants should have graduated from medical school within five years or have Neurosurgery resident experience and must meet the accreditation requirements of the American Osteopathic Association for licensure.
- ECFMG certification is not required at the time your application is submitted but is required to start residency.
- Training programs are competitive and do not meet the hard to fill criteria required for Visa (Temporary TN work status, temporary H-1B and J-1) sponsorship.
